Sewing for the Teen

Haven has let me sew for her so few times I can probably count them on one hand. So when she told me she wanted me to make her a whole new wardrobe for school next year I nearly fell out of my chair! She had seen some skirts at a not-so-appropriate-for-teens online store that were completely adorable but WAY too short. No problem! They were super simple layered ruffle skirts. So Haven picked out the fabrics and we made up a pattern and they turned out really cute! The waistbands are knit and the ruffles are quilting cottons. Next we're going to attempt a black tulle petty coat that will stick out just below the bottom ruffle. We all (all the girls at the shop) wish we had the legs to pull off these skirts...

Darling skirts! How fun that she wants you to make her clothes. My mom made most of mine. Corinnea got her sewing ability. Can't believe how much Haven has grown up. She is a very pretty young lady.

IS that the fabric you and her picked out yesterday at the shop? I can't believe you have already make a skirt. Or two? WOW! I am impressed. And yes, where do I sign up for the legs?

Ok, those are just awesome. You're such a cool mom. Mine wouldn't have let me wear skirts like that, let alone make them for me. And she is absolutely gorgeous, I agree with Corinnea! She is looking so grown up!

Tina, no that fabric you saw me buy was in the wash last night! The bottom one is the skirt Haven was wearing when we all went to dinner.

Adrienne, these skirts are not as short as they look. Haven just has legs that go on forever. They pass the finger tip test and the bending over test! That's what's great about making your own clothes - you control everything! :)

Oh man adrienne's and your comment back had me cracking up. I was thinking the same thing my parents were upset about shorts I can't even imagine trying to get out of the house in the skirt!
What's really funny is that now my mom dress's in things (talking patterns and colors) that make me uncomfortable (she knows lol)
I wonder what I will have to deal with if we ever have a girl! It may not be terrible to just have boys... hopefully sagging will be old by then : P

Oh and I really like the second skirt.
